  ARBORSYSTEMS PRODUCTS
Wedgle™ Direct-Inject™ unit – Custom-made injection unit designed to inject chemicals directly into a tree without drilling.

Direct-Inject chemicals – Chemicals packaged specifically for use with the Wedgle Direct-Inject unit. 120 ml (4 oz.), impact-resistant plastic bottles, with leak-proof, self-sealing caps. Caps are designed to attach to the Wedgle Direct-Inject unit. Bottle may be removed from the unit, recapped, and safely stored for additional use at a later time. Refilling bottles is prohibited by law.

Wedgle Tip – A small diameter, heavy-duty needle with a patented tip. Wedgle Tip is attached to the Direct-Inject unit and is used to inject chemicals into the tree. Standard .75" tip delivers chemical to a broad range of trees. Longer 1.5" tip available for treating trees with thick, corky bark such as Hemlock, Pine, Elm, and Eucalyptus trees.

WedgeChek™ – Self-sealing plug that keeps the chemical in the tree and keeps out air and pests.

WedgeChek Punch – A specialized tool used to remove bark plug, creating a hole precisely the size and shape of the WedgeChek. Also assists in inserting WedgeChek into the bark.

Wedgle Direct-Inject Tree Treatment System – One convenient 12" x 10" case includes everything needed to treat trees (chemicals available separately). Waterproof, foam-lined case carries the Wedgle Direct-Inject unit, the WedgeChek punch, extra Wedgle Tips and WedgeCheks, tape measure, protective goggles, assembly instructions, registration card, and how-to CD-ROM. Case is designed to hold up to four bottles of chemicals in protective foam niches.

  TREE TERMS
Bark – Tree bark is comprised of two layers, the Outer Bark which provides protection and the Inner Bark or Phloem, moves food (sugars) and hormones.

Wood or Xylem – The tree wood or xylem is comprised of two parts. The Sapwood contains active conducting vessels in the outer three rings and is used for water and nutrient movement and food storage. Drilling into sapwood disrupts the negative pressure required for effective nutrient movement. The Heartwood is the non-active portion of tree used for waste storage, it provides strength.

Cambial Zone – This is the area between the bark and the wood. The Cambial zone creates the cells needed for bark and wood growth and assists in the movement of nutrients throughout the tree. When chemicals are injected into the Cambial zone they can easily be absorbed by the outer ring of sapwood, without damage to the sapwood. Seventy to ninety percent of chemical absorption occurs in this area.

Fissure – The valley between the ridges of bark on a tree through which chemicals are injected.

Tight bark – The inner bark of a tree which is attached to the Cambial zone.

Compartmentalization – A tree defense process where protection features develop that resist the spread of pathogens. While compartmentalization is part of the normal growth process (whereby sapwood is converted to hardwood), trees also respond to sapwood injury or infection by "walling off" or compartmentalizing the injured area, reducing the tree's ability to move and store nutrients and energy reserves. Compartmentalized wood cannot regain its ability to actively move and store nutrients.
