You remove a small core of bark with the WedgeChek punch to insert the WedgeChek in the tree. No drilling required. As long as the bark is tight and in the same growing season, you can reuse or inject again into the WedgeChek site. The tree will push the WedgeChek out of the outer bark as it grows and expands causing no damage to the tree.
